Director, Impact & Policy Comms
The Director, Impact, Partnerships, and Policy Communications at United Way Worldwide (UWW) is a pivotal role focused on amplifying the organization's impact through strategic communications. This hybrid position, based in Alexandria, VA, demands a seasoned professional who can effectively translate UWW's programmatic goals into compelling narratives and impactful communication strategies.
This role centers on developing and executing integrated communications plans that support UWW's core impact areas: Healthy Community, Financial Security, Youth Opportunity, and Community Resiliency. The Director will be responsible for crafting content that resonates with diverse audiences, including government partners, network affiliates, and the general public.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategic Communications Planning: Creating and managing comprehensive communications plans for UWW’s 211 network, government partnerships, and public policy initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Content Development & Writing: Producing high-quality content across various platforms, including impact stories, website content, social media posts, and presentations. This involves strong writing and editing skills to effectively convey UWW’s mission and impact.
Event Communications: Leading communications efforts for key events such as the Advocacy Forum and 211 Forum, ensuring consistent messaging and brand representation.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilizing data analytics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies and inform future initiatives, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and alignment with UWW’s communication strategies.
Brand Stewardship: Championing the global United Way brand, ensuring consistency in messaging and adherence to brand guidelines across all communication channels.
The ideal candidate will possess:
A bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in a similar communications role.
Proven ability to translate organizational goals into effective communication strategies.
Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills, with a keen eye for detail.
Experience using marketing automation tools (e.g., Hubspot) and project management software (e.g., Smartsheet).
Cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Experience working with non-profit, or federated organizations.

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $145,000 per year, with a comprehensive benefits package.
